Terry torra

He/Him

Drawing and Painting Instructor

My current series of non representational paintings are formalized constructions that invite the observer to engage in the complex imagery of each piece. What will be observed is the very intentional application of multiple multi coloured transparent and opaque layers with sumptuous textures and the smooth blending

from one colour to another contrasted with heavy textures and under painting revealing themselves through the open areas of the top layers. Intentionality drives the compositional placement of the paintings elements; colour, texture, etc.. And yet, at the same time the process is one where the painting and the artist enter into a dialogue throughout the creation of the works.

Terry was born in southern Ontario and graduated from the University of Western Ontario with an Honours Arts Degree (Visual Arts Major). He has worked and exhibited extensively over the years across Ontario including the Art Gallery of Ontario and the rental service. He has also been an art instructor/teacher professionally for many years. His work has been collected privately and by corporations in Canada and internationally. Terry has been a past recipient of the City of Cambridge’s Bernice Adams Award in the Visual Arts. Terry works in many mediums but painting is his major focus. He also is an avid printmaker and photographer.
