Photograph(er)s of Waterloo Region

 

This is a juried Photo exhibition open to any photographer in the Waterloo Region. The theme of this exhibition is: “Your Neighbour/hood” The challenge is to tell a story of your neighbourhood in 4-8 images. Explore more than just
the aesthetics of where you live. Relationships, neighbourhood dynamics, history, change. This can be done through any subject matter e.g. portraiture, architecture, documentary, landscape/cityscape…

About Juror Karl Griffiths-Fulton
Karl Griffiths-Fulton will serve as the juror  the juror of this year’s competition. He has thirty-two years’ experience as a professional photographer, which includes working at the London School Of Economics and Political Science, England, BBC News and Current Affairs. He has had numerous exhibitions in England, Ireland, Scotland and Canada, with 7 books published of his photography. He has also taught at the University of Waterloo and Pumphouse Visual Arts Centre, NOTL.

Submission Criteria

  • All photos must be original work, taken by the entrants

  • Only work not previously shown at BFA will be accepted

  • No third party may own or control any materials the photo contains, and the photo must

  • not infringe upon the trademark, copyright, moral rights, intellectual rights, or rights of

  • privacy of any entity or person

  • No images created by AI will be accepted.

  • Black and White or Colour photographs are accepted

  • File sizes: For initial digital submission and selection purposes, images should be no larger than 1Mb

  • Printed images selected for exhibition should be high resolution, printed up to a maximum of 20 x 16 inches-- file sizes should be approximately 4800 X 6000 at 300 pixels/inch

  • Images that do not meet these requirements will be disqualified.

  • Please deliver all works unframed. All photographs will be installed using rare earth magnets.

  • Work may be for sale

  • The photographer must firmly attach ONE label to the BACK of their submitted print indicating, name, title, price

  •  All work left 60 days beyond pick-up date becomes the property of The Button Factory Arts.

  • Work that does not meet the criteria will not be accepted for entry

Important Dates
Digital closes March 29, midnight
Acceptance notification: Tuesday, April 2
Drop off selected works at BFA: Saturday, April 6, 10 – 5 pm
Exhibition Opening: Friday, April 12, 5 – 7 pm
Exhibition dates: April 12 – May 10
Pick up for works in Exhibition: Saturday, May 11, 10 – 5 pm

 

Awards
Awards will be announced at the opening reception.


Sales
Please note that BFA will retain a 40% commission fee on any sales of work. Taxes are the responsibility of the artist. The artist retains copyright of all work on display.

1 set of up to 8 photos- $20

Insurance
In submitting works to be shown at Button Factory Arts, artists agree to do so at their own risk. The artists are responsible for any insurance coverage they may require against loss or damage of the works while they are on Button Factory Arts property.
