Although I create works with a strong interest on aesthetic value, their goal is not to decorate but to challenge and provoke reflection. They are not works that bring feelings of stability, of having one’s trunk on well-grounded roots, of harmony, peace and relaxation. Their subjects are not mythological Rocky Mountains, beautiful rivers, forests, lakes or pastoral landscapes where only infinite blue  skies are the limit. Mine are works that want to provoke feelings of indignation, uneasiness, anger, and contempt toward selfish interests that, in the name of Democracy, Freedom and Progress,  bring wars, poverty, cultural dislocation and despair to the very same people to whom “they” claim to be the objects of their efforts.

 

My paintings are images populated with people who find the roofs above their head too low; their rooms too crowded even to breath; who find themselves excluded from the benefits of living in places where others have too much of what they have not even too little;  people who have been the subjects of injustice, greed, exploitation, racism and discrimination. And these are works about doctrinal and  societal rules and stereotypes that bind us all and turn one against  the other.
