Susan Clarke

She/Her

Mixed Media Jewelry Instructor

Susan's approach to making jewelry is eclectic. Whether it's whimsical, makes a statement, or brings to life an artful find, her work reflects a love of exploring and creating. And at times... it's just for fun!

Susan is a retired educator who spent much of her career supporting adult learners. Since retiring, she has transformed her lifelong passions for photography, jewelry making and teaching into a small business. At Button Factory Arts Centre, she takes great pleasure in introducing others to making jewelry — a craft that can be fun, creative and rewarding.

Much of Susan's work is inspired by the wonders of Bruce County, for she's often moved by its natural landscapes. Whether it's hiking the Bruce Trail, combing the beach for a unique piece of driftwood to turn into a pendant, recreating Georgian Bay's turquoise shoreline on her painted pendants, or photographing a gorgeous Lake Huron sunset that inspires one of her bead soup mixes, the Peninsula is frequently the source of inspiration for her jewelry. A quote by Thoreau is Susan's mantra, "It's not what you look at that matters, it's what you see." Susan enjoys making the ordinary special. She believes everyone should be free to be their own kind of beautiful.
