MIA BUONO

She/Her

Filmmaking and Analog Process Photography

Mia Buono is an artist and filmmaker who focuses on the analog and alternative process medium. Her recent body of work includes direct animation on 16mm using scrap film, and works created without a camera that use the body in place of a lens. Mia uses these techniques to explore the mediation technology plays between the body and film image, and enjoys sharing this artform with others through workshops at Button Factory Arts, Caledon Culture Days, Northern Contemporary Gallery, and as a Toronto Arts Council "Artist in the Library" for 2026. She holds a BFA in Film Studies from Toronto Metropolitan University and has also produced upwards of 10 short films in many genres.
