Job Opening: Summer Camp Counselor

Button Factory Arts in Uptown Waterloo is seeking 2 summer camp counselors for its Visual Arts summer camp.

 

Application Deadline: June 3rd, 2023
Start Date: July 4 (with orientation the week of June 27th)
Salary: $15.50/hour
City: Waterloo
Term: July 3 to Sept. 1, 2023 – (excluding the week of August 21-25 for holidays). (contract)

Hours: Monday - Friday, 8:45am to 5:15pm with a 1 hour unpaid lunch daily. (total of 7.5 hours per day)

Camp Mission

The camp’s goal is to provide an inspiring and creative environment for children aged 5-12. Applicants are expected to have experience and a love for working with children and a variety of art materials. Interested instructors should have experience working in a team environment. Applicants who are planning a career in the Arts or Education may take preference.

Requirements

  • This position is through Canada Summer Jobs and requires that applicants are 15-30 years of age.

  • Applicants must have completed a Secondary School diploma by the spring of 2023

  • A Vulnerable Sector Screening check from within the past year is a mandatory requirement for those over 18

  • First Aid/CPR certificate is considered an asset

Duties

  • Create lesson plans for youth under the guidance of the Camp Supervisor

  • Deliver camp lessons, classes and engaging activities and games

  • Prepare art materials, organize and cleanup

  • Supervision of campers during all indoor and outdoor activities

  • Attending staff meeting and ensuring ongoing communication with Camp Supervisor

  • Must be able to lift and carry materials, do stairs, and lead walks to the park.

Recommended Experience and Qualifications

  • Experience with educational program planning

  • Interest/Experience working with children and youth

  • Skills and drawing, painting, printmaking, ceramics, fibre art or other art disciplines

  • Excellent communication skills

  • Organized individual who can work independently as well as with a team

  • Ability to plan and deliver lessons and work with other staff on a deadline

  • Patience and sensitivity for children in high energy environments

  • Ability to be an effective leader
